7 Ways to Be Productive and Stress-Free in a Waiting Room

7 Ways to Be Productive and Stress-Free in a Waiting Room on pommri.com

Find out how you can be productive and get more from your time while in the waiting room

Sitting in the waiting room can be frustrating. Even the shortest wait can seem like hours, causing frustration, anxiety and stress. At POM MRI, we want you to have peace of mind (that’s what the POM in our name stands for!) and the best possible experience, so we make sure to maintain a clean, comfortable, and relaxing waiting room.

However, there are still things you can do to make your time in a waiting room more productive and stress-free. Whether you are visiting us or another medical center, clinic or hospital, you can use these tips to get more from every minute in the waiting room.

1. Write down and review your questions

This is probably the most effective way to get the most from your visit. The doctor’s office or clinic can seem intimidating, and by the time you get to the room, talk with a nurse, and go through a procedure or test, you can easily forget to ask important questions. By writing them down, however, you have something to reference. And don’t be afraid to ask a question that might seem silly; after all, it’s your health and you deserve to have all the information you need.

2. Check and update your contact and medical information

When you visit the front desk, ask the receptionist about your current emergency contact and other information. If anything in their files needs to be updated, you can do that while you’re waiting instead of hanging around to do it after your visit.

3. De-stress

Stress is harmful to our physical health, mental wellbeing, and happiness. Instead of sitting in the chair, stewing, and becoming nervous, listen to some music, take deep calming breaths, or use a phone app to meditate. Anything you can do to de-stress will help you in the long run.

4. Clean your email inbox

While you wait, you might as well take care of some tasks that you’ve been meaning to complete. One such task might be cleaning all the emails from your inbox and cleaning out your junk and trash folder. Often, getting organized or disorganized in one area of our lives can transfer that sense of calm or chaos to other areas of our lives. Cleaning out your inbox will help clear your headspace and give you a feeling of control.

5. Read something

While most waiting rooms have magazines for you to browse, there’s no law against bringing your own reading material. You can bring a book that you enjoy or an informational piece related to your favorite subjects. Keep your brain occupied and the wait will be over in no time.

6. Organize your smartphone

Apps, photos, videos, unneeded reminders…your smart phone can be just as cluttered as your inbox. Take the time to get rid of old stuff, organize the items you want, and make your phone more accessible and convenient.

7. Get some work done

If you can work from your laptop or connected device, bring it with you and try to complete a few tasks. You’ll feel good about accomplishing something and have less to deal with when you leave. It can be anything from replying to emails to making progress on a looming project. It won’t feel like time wasted when you work in the waiting room.
